Sustainability Pledge increases with addition of two Tesla Charging Stations.
Over the past 16 years, guests have enjoyed recharging their minds, bodies and spirits at the Cocoa Cottage Bed and Breakfast. Now in conjunction with Tesla, Inc., they can charge their car too.
The historic, award-winning luxury property announced the addition of two, Level-2 Tesla electric car charging stations on the property; the charging stations for green age motorists.
Co-owner Lisa Tallarico said, “Adding the chargers was just another step in a long list of green initiatives we have implemented since before opening in 2002. Sustainability and positive environmental practices are an important part of our core value system, and we have incorporated those values into our business and daily life because it is the right thing to do for our property, our beautiful community and our planet.”
“The sleek electric cars, with price tags that start about $35,000, can go hundreds of miles before needing a charge, but finding a public place to recharge in Western Michigan was nearly impossible”, said Larry Robertson, co-owner of the Cocoa Cottage. “We saw this as a great opportunity to support electric vehicle owners and meet other green-minded individuals.” Tesla has incorporated technology that alerts drivers of remaining charge and where the nearest charging station is available. Technologies incorporated into the vehicles also notify their owners, via their smartphones, when their charging process is complete. This added technology allows users to leave their vehicle while charging. “We encourage drivers to relish the beauty of our walk-able community and enjoy a meal at one of our local eateries.”
“We love that adding this service not only for overnight guests, but travelers who just need a, “fill up”, supports the shops and restaurants within walking distance of the Cocoa Cottage Bed and Breakfast” said Lisa. Chargers like the one at the Cocoa Cottage Bed and Breakfast, are able to provide about 58 miles of driving range for each hour of charging time. “I was impressed with the speed that this unit charged. I have much experience with Tesla’s Supercharger and I was not expecting the Level-2 to charge this quickly!” said Jim from Redwood California who was returning home from traversing the country in his Tesla X.
“Working with representatives from Tesla, Inc. and AMP Electric of Muskegon to coordinate the installation was such an all-around positive experience. We ran into a snag and had to re-route the underground wiring, but Joe Cutshall from AMP Electric was very accommodating and solved the problem with a smile!” said Lisa. AMP was awesome to work with on this project.
