Fresh. Local. Organic.

Food is our Passion! We love everything about food. Preparing it. Eating it. Growing it. Most of all, Sharing it.

Our philosophy about food at the Cocoa Cottage Bed and Breakfast is that if it’s worth making, it’s worth making a fuss over. Our recipes are always made from scratch using the freshest of ingredients (Homegrown and/or Organic, when ever possible) and an extra pinch of Larry and Lisa’s creativity!

Food allergies and dietary restrictions are not a problem. In fact, we view them as opportunities! An opportunity to engage our creativity and create something wonderful for you. Just let us know in 72 hours in advance so we can be sure to have everything we need to accommodate you!

Breakfast is served at 9:00 am. A continental to-go breakfast is available upon request if your travels require an earlier departure time.

Like most everything else in our great State of Michigan, our menu changes with the seasons. We are fortunate to live in some of the Midwest’s richest farmlands. In Spring enjoy tender asparagus in our asparagus-ricotta tart. If you’re lucky, our friend Stu will stop by with fresh-picked, organic, purple asparagus. You have to try it to believe it!

You know that summer is in full bloom when Larry sprinkles handpicked black raspberries from Lisa’s abundant garden on your Lemon Ricotta Pancakes or garnishes an assortment of imported cheese with freshly picked cherries from our own trees.

To celebrate our local Blueberry festival (the last weekend in July) our summer menu includes Lemon Blueberry muffins, Blueberry Coffeecake French Toast or Blueberry Bread Pudding with our homemade Lemon Curd. We can’t forget to mention the apples, peaches, and melons. A mainstay of our market-fresh summer menu.

Nothing makes Lisa happier (or a better innkeeper) than spending time in her garden. As Lisa says “it’s better than therapy” and you reap the benefits! Her abundant herb and vegetable gardens, black raspberry “corral” and cherry trees supply Larry’s kitchen spring thru fall.

Most gardeners plant just 1 zucchini plant. Lisa plants 8-10 to be sure that Larry has plenty non-GMO, organically grown zucchini for his signature Chocolate Zucchini bread.

Lisa’s love of canning and all thing homemade fill Larry’s pantry. Her indoor lemon tree (7 full-size lemons this year!), rosemary and mint plants, along with a plethora of Organic, non-GMO seed catalogs sustain her garden urges thru Christmas and the beauty of winter.
